Behold the cold, Bleakwind!
Over 30 structures, detailed inside and out.
You arrive as everyone does to this frozen fortress, aboard a ship. It's not as if anyone could walk or swim here without succumbing to the elements. Isolated on the peninsula of a frostbitten tundra island, Bleakwind endures. The city towers far above the surrounding sea. Ships arrive at port to supply the bare necessities the windswept wasteland lacks, and are loaded with Bleakwind's signature export, coal.
Bleakwind got its name from the first fortunate crew to survive to tell of this forsaken place. The crew of The Mineko set sail into the harshest storm seen in decades. The howling winds pushed their uncontrollable vessel far further than expected, running aground just barely offshore. The masts of their ship can still be seen poking above the surface to this day, sending a clear warning to incoming seafarers of the hidden dangers lurking below. The crew escaped their predicament, bobbing in a lifeboat; this doubled as a makeshift shelter once they reached the shore. Without their dinghy and the surface coal deposits they discovered beneath the snowy surface, the crew would have perished in this inhospitable place. By burning their newly found fortune in coal, our harrowing sailors were able to signal an SOS to a passing ship. The makeshift dock constructed for the rescue would later be returned to by entrepreneurs looking to exploit the untapped reserves of natural resources. How long will these resources last? We'll surely find out someday. Until then, the exports have allowed for explosive growth in The Market, as well as population, and the infrastructure of the environment. Today, the spires reach high above the land that provided for them, and the shivering people are packed onto the peninsula.
For nearly 5 years, I've been working on this. I started manually constructing this fortress city in bedrock 1.16 on my Xbox. This was long before I learned worldedit, so the vast majority of the work was done in creative, with no building tools and what little free time or many sleepless nights I had. I did use worldedit and worldpainter to fix some prohibitively laborious mistakes (quite literally moved half the castle over one block) and move everything into a fresh world my friends and I haven't played on. I first envisioned it while living in a dorm room. Once the pandemic squeezed me out of college life, I finally had the time to start it for real. There were some long periods when I was forced to step away from building this, and more recently, stretches when I refused to stop building to get it to where it is today. The first time I've considered Bleakwind complete. That being said, I will definitely be building more here. I have plans to eventually integrate this into something much bigger, with some help, of course.

Update #1 : by DownTheBlockHomes 10/17/2025 6:13:53 pmOctober 17, 2025 @ 10:13 pm UTC
Version 1.1 is here! So what's new?
I've done some file optimization and have trimmed about 20MB, or roughly 1/6 off the file size. It is still quite large at 102MB.
