Please keep in mind before posting comments that:
1. This project was started BEFORE the height limit was increased from 128 to 256.
2. I know about the Minetrek2.0 server - GREAT WORK THERE.
3. My build is different fro. m the Minetrek2.0 build.
4. I have ALL the blueprints - thanks, have em in physical as well as digital form
5. The data lost has been semi-recovered - hopefully I'll know to what extent once I get the new PC built.
6. I am building this thing primarily by myself at this point - Others are helping once I get the basics done and can get it uploaded to a server.
7. I have no clue how I will do the exterior.
8. Enjoy my other Star Trek ship builds.
Update March 30th
Well as some of you already know I had a catastrophic SSD failure followed by a failure of my video card. The OCZ Vertex Plus 120 Gig that I installed JUST three months ago was shipped with faulty firmware and as a result, it died. Not at first mind you, but slowly over the course of a couple of days. All of my back up data was corrupted in the interim resulting in a COMPLETE loss of ALL data. Even the off line back up stuff with Carbonite. (All the files were overwritten with corrupted updates.)
So until I can save up the money to replace my hard drive with an INTEL one, and replace the Video Card, I am stuck on my old XP 32bit OS running on an old 8800 GT card and its pushing 6 years old and has "issues."
I can, fingers crossed, reconstitute some of my data, as I also did back ups to a second HDD. However, that drive is locked at the moment and I am unsure how to change the access permissions to the older OS drive that I am now using.
WARNING - OCZ products, suck! So far I am NOT impressed with their customer support either. They tell me to update the drives firmware... um, the drive won't even allow me to post into BIOS when connected to my system so ya, I'm going to get right on that firmware update... also I'd have to configure my SATA to use IDE and I have no idea how to do that with my P5N7-T premium Asus board thats 6 years old now.
Any how, I am screwed two ways to Sunday until further notice.
Well fingers are now crossed that MCedit, now that is is open source, will continue to be supported. If so, then this project is still a go. I haven't stopped working on it just slowed a bit. I am still making head way and she is coming along nicely.
Short of a miracle there is no way in hell this thing could be built in MC.
The USS Galaxy is so frigging massive in scope and size that to build it would require a commitment far beyond the average geeks ability. Granted one has already been made, the one on youtube, but to be honest, have any of you ever been able to tour it? Not me, my server time lasted for about two minutes before minecraft choked and died.
Granted that thing is huge, massively so, I doubt that it will ever be available for single player download. Additionally MC current height limitations would preclude it from use with MC 1.0.0 without a dynamic height mod.
One could hope that they'll eventually improve the creative mode of the game to allow players to set many of the game features from world height to turning off snow and starting the world at X level with flat terrain of your choice.
MCEdit can only do so much right now.
Any ways, I spend about 24 hours making the just flat renditions of Decks 3, 4, and 5 of the Galaxy class starship using the MC Structure planner and Ed White blue prints. After two hours of waiting for the grid to generate I clicked on auto render and went too bed. 24 hours later it finished. If I had the time to do it, I'd rebuild each deck using other materials and start the process of building the ship.
But I don't have that kind of commitment. Now if I were being paid to do it, then I'd consider it. But as it stands now, you'll just have to hope that one day a world save or schematic of the youtube ENTERPRISE D build is published.

Update #17 : by Atrocities 07/22/2013 11:07:46 pmJuly 23, 2013 @ 3:07 am UTC
I have gone through my old game saves and found that I do have a significantly current back up of the ship. I could restart work on her at any time but feel that I could not do her justice in the hull department. Simply put the hull is so unique that if I tried to build it as I have done with my other builds, a block at a time using reference 3d hulls, I couldn't pull it off. I'd need to use a true 3d imported hull for this ship. I might revisit and continue work on her now that I have a valid back up and 1.6.2 is out. (Hopefully soon the MineTrek.net server will be updated to latest version so we can get our hands on the new blocks.

Have something to say?
I might have bagged the Gal build but the C and the B builds are on the server and look amazing. The Andrew Probert Ambassador was a big ship and a lot of fun to do. I also did up a smaller nebula class based on the Monumentously hull. She too is available here for download. I used a lot of the things I had made for the Gal in that build.
