I am still working on this :) ... it just slowed down due to lack of time :s

Due to the changes made in MC 1.8.0 where Mojang decided to remove all of the unused metadata values, I have been more-or-less forced to remain in MC v1.7.x with this project, as it uses alot of the metadata features.
But this has one positive effect as well... because now I can at least focus my work on this project, without the need to keep in mind any upcoming changes with newer mc releases (which already few times overhauled my work with this project).

After a long long time I am slowly getting back to Minecraft, more likely gaming overall and since I bought me a new PC this year I did something as a small celebration, especialy that it took me half a day to make the whole thing work.

This is my first castle build on our old private server, started back in the days of mc 1.0-1.2 iirc.

The map has been since then abandoned, but I would like to return one day to it and finish the build as it is still somehow one of my favored ones, hehe.

Built in survival, but yeah, now and then creative was used (in terms of saving time, especialy for changing view-angles which I usually need to do when building anything), the mats have been gathered manualy in survival, as well as most of it has been build in survival too, yeah...
Right now I am updating the project purely in Creative mode, due to lack of time.

It was my first try... hmm.. actualy my 2nd, my 1st was on singleplayer, probly gonna upload that one as well ... someday... maybe... :)
anyway... that said... this build has a lot of fails, in my opinion at least, as it did not came out as I thought on the first time, but well... I build w/o preparation, pure improvization, so yeah, miscalculations happen (ie. like the not enough space goddamnit facepalm moments several times I faced during building :D)...
...so therefore the tittle... FailBurg.

Attention was paid not just to exterior, but as well as interior, incl. furnishing.
The Castle persists from several districts within it's defensive walls. Military, Trade, Industrial, Public,... Stabbles, Armory, Guard Posts, Barracks, Inn, Alchemyst, Herbalist, Hospital, Blacksmith, Library, Visitor's Centre, Prison, etc.
Outside of the safe castle walls are structures like theRoyal quarry area nearby with smaller farm settlement, a lumbermill and a frozen dock village to north? (mostly done) as well as one to south (not even started yet) to be found.
It is positioned in Winter biome, althought we moved the build later on to a new map so the biome has changed as well as the surroundings, but I will figure it out somehow to bring it back :)

There is no download available atm, but after I will get to a decent point of completion where I will be sadisfied with releasing it into public I gonna upload the map as well as the schematic here for you folks :)

I have found a lot of screenshots in my archive so I have made a big photoalbum of them in case you would like to see more pics, I leave the link here:
They have been made in several custom edited texture packs and at different servers over a course of time, incl. some early build stages.

Well, ... Let me know your opinion on it.

Additional Notes

Quarry was build with my buddy MAJRIS
The Frozen dock village build by MAJRIS and buddy Krkvac.

Nice nostalgia awakens in me :-)

dunno if you are still working on this or want to, but http://www.planetminecraft.com/blog/old-unused-metadata-values-in-1112/ might be interesting. It can work in MP (spigot or more easily vanilla server) but is dead simple in SP (just a litemod)

Hi, thanks for the interest on this project.
As I replied already in previous comment, it will be ... one day.
The only question is when this day will come, and that's a huge unknown even to me atm.
Did not fired up MC in a long time already, so all my work on any MC related stuff is on hold.
Not abandoned needed to say, just unfortunately on a forced pause caused by thing called life :-/
In a best scenario it will be sometimes later this year, or the next one...

:P thanks!

tbh. when I look at the pics, I have to say they are all quite dark and one can hardly see something on them clearly :s
/facepalms ... did never realised that
the darkness is actually a side-product of editing the pictures by adding some "shader-like" effects.
Most probably gonna make new ones, or at least add some more bright variants eh.

But otherwise, yes, I like to create dark looking areas, althought, they are nearly always safe, but still damn dark ]:=>

When I first saw this, the picture of a snowy castle of Skyrim immediately hit my mind. Fort Snowhawk or something like that. Especially on the outside the build looks like one of those tough fortresses in Skyrim. The interior on the other hand is much more detailed and not desolate looking like most of the castles in the game.

But what's really impressive here is that you've built it in survival. Building i survival is 100 times harder. But I'm not appreciating just that - the effort -, but also of course that the castle really looks great. I always love builds that were made with the equal attention to the interior as to the exterior. That should be a matter of course but it's obviously not mostly.

And yes, the problems with MC updates. That's soething I have had troubles with, especially in the past. For example redstone behavior kept changing - some circuits got broken, it was frustrating. I hope nothing like that will ever happen again.

So anyway, the castle looks really cool and I will subscribe so I can see how you're advancing.

Oh man, thanks for the support and feedback, all of them, not just this one ;)

... regarding the exterior look of it, I had never played Skyrim :D pure accident heh
Skyrim was not even existing in the times when I did built this I guess :D, but it's good to know about that.
You are the first one that compared it to that :P

It's more about the overall feel, probably caused especially by the snow. Skyrim fortresses are more... rough looking, usually quite desolate... So I'm not saying it's exact but the picture still popped up in my mind.
Okay anyway, I hope you will continue working on it! -_^
Looks amazing :D but it doesn't deserve to have 'fail' in it's name x)

:D well, the name has some history behind it, back from the days when it was build in survival and had mostly cobblestone only invented, there were no metadata textures, or w/e, and the calculations have been wrong, miscalculated regarding the size of the castle itself (yeah, it should have been bigger :D), so I chose the name due to this back then, and now I just sticked to it :P

Thank you! :)

I will upload some new pics when I get the time for it during this weekend, bussy days x_x

Don't worry about your lack of skill in builds, praxis praxis praxis, inspiration from others, some yt vids and tutorials and you will get into it with time and effort and some fantasy ;)
woah this is really sweet! Did you know you can use Sketchfab to publish your Minecraft levels and display them interactively, anywhere online? here's an example, that also has a castle in it ;) - Riverwood City!

Its a web platform for publishing 3D models - basically like Youtube for them. We've made an exporter for Minecraft, which plugs right into the game and connects you to your (completely free) Sketchfab account. And the viewer is embeddable, so you can share your Minecraft creations anywhere online!

Smells like a propaganda for 3rd party application, but well...
I let it be, there are worse ones ;)

I have tried to load the Riverwood City, but it rebooted my pc after reaching 100% :/
seems to be a performance consumer heh,
but who knows, maybe I gonna try it out in the future, thx for your sharing ronsketchfab.
