Castle Lacmontain
Minecraft-Version: Java 1.19.2
A medium sized castle in a partially landscaped mountain lake, with some additional custom structures around it.
Modded, realistic, functional, playable.
Looks great with shaders and Better Grass.
Working drawbridge thanks to abovearth’s tutorial (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=myft9O18Xj0 ).
Description:
This is a starter map with a challenge. Find the castle and defeat the villainous brigands that occupy it! Then take it for your base. You can also turn it into a “village” if you manage to find the necessary villagers. – However, it is advisable to explore first. You will find various items, material and information around the castle which will help you to vanquish the brigands and to discover their secrets. Maybe you will even find the fabulous treasure of Count Borago, the robber baron!
If you want to explore the map without hostile creatures, change the difficulty to Peaceful, to remove them. You can then change to another level again.
The idea was to make the castle as realistic as possible (no curved or diagonal walls etc.), using special blocks from mods, but keeping the original Minecraft aesthetics. The proportions are also kept realistic, relative to the player size and to the block size of 1m (many fantastic Minecraft builds tend to be “bigger than life”, so that curved and diagonal structures look more convincing). This led to a building style which is a little different from other maps.
The original map (seed 5888345686473551809) is quite nice by itself, with various animals and structures close to spawn, some even directly in sight. I did a bit of landscaping to create the lake and the island the castle is built on, but the scenery is mainly based on the original terrain.
There is a simpler version of this map available on https://www.minecraftmaps.com/castle-maps/mountain-lake-castle .
Mods that are essential for the map, all available on Forge:
AutoRegLib; Crafting Station; Create; Decorative Blocks; Double Slabs; Dramatic Doors; Dynamic Trees; Dynamic Trees+; Dynamic Trees-Quark; Extended Slabs +; Iron Chests; Macaw’s: Bridges, Fences, Furniture, Lights and Lamps, Roofs, Windows; Quark; Thin Pillars; Torchmaster; YUNG’s: API, Better Mineshafts. - You may want to add other mods, like Guard Villagers, to man your castle.
Thanks to all the mod creators for their great work!
Details:
inside the Castle: Great Hall, arcades, throne room, chapel, library, kitchen, cellars, alchemist cellar, magician’s study, dungeon, armoury, dormitories, outer bailey, secret passage, secret treasure vault (hidden), and much more;
around the Castle: the castle vegetable garden, a small church with a cemetery, a ruined tower, a witch hut, a large barque, a geologist’s tent, an abandoned mine shaft elevator (hidden), and much more. Explore and enjoy!
Technical instructions:
Do not press the button for operating the drawbridge as long as the bridge moves! If you did it wrong and the bridge stopped at the wrong position, try to do it wrong again (and again and again) until, eventually, the bridge locks into the right position again.
In case you wonder: double beam drawbridges usually do, in fact, not open up to a completely vertical position. This is due to their construction.
Better don’t change anything with the mechanical parts (powered by Create Mod) if you’re not sure what you are doing. Better only save your game when the moving parts are locked into a “normal”, Vanilla position.
In case you find the hidden Mineshaft-Elevator: Eventually, you may glitch through the floor or the roof of the elevator when riding it. In case this happens, you will end up in a watered pit below the elevator or in a small room on top of it, with exits provided. However, in some very rare cases you may die, so be aware!
Game rules:
As long as any building is occupied by hostile creatures, you are not allowed to destroy its solid blocks. However, you may destroy/take anything that you could move in real life, like sand, gravel, carpets, haystacks, furniture, food etc.
There are several custom structures around the castle. Some of them mimic vanilla structures like a desert temple, a swamp hut, an igloo, a jungle pyramid etc. The loot you find will help you to prepare your assault on the castle. Some friendly mobs may have hidden information for you to find.
There is a beautiful valley behind the mountain ridge north of the castle which, perhaps, you would like to visit.
