This sculpture is a replica of a sculpture called Digital Orca by Douglas Coupland. The sculpture original is in British Columbia, Canada. I took a bunch of reference photos of the sculpture, and used them to recreate the sculpture in Minecraft. Attached are some screen shots of the sculpture, and a sprite sheet of each layer so you can build your own from the bottom up. Open it up in an image editor (GIMP, Photoshop, etc.) to zoom in. Each cell in the sprite sheet is 20px x 24px, and there is 1 pink pixel in each corner of each cell. Start in the top left, and read it like a book, starting at the bottom of the sculpture and moving to the top. When you're done, you'll have a giant killer whale.
Additional Notes
Credit for the idea and execution of the sculpture MUST go to Douglas Coupland. All I did was transcribe it to Minecraft, and document the process. Douglas is an amazing author, artist, and Canadian. This is his work.Credit | Douglas Coupland |
