Edinburgh Place (愛丁堡廣場) is a public square in Central, Hong Kong, adjacent to the Victoria Harbour. The Hong Kong City Hall (大會堂) is located in the square. In addition, the Edinburgh Place Ferry Pier (愛丁堡廣場渡輪碼頭), AKA Central Star Ferry Pier (中環天星碼頭) and Queen's Pier (皇后碼頭) were also located in the square before they were demolished in early 2007.
The complex was built in late 1950s, and consists of three major components: City Hall, The Ferry Pier and Queen's Pier.
The archetecture of the City Hall is an example of international style. It is separated into Lower block and High block. The most important civic function performed by City Hall was as a ceremonial location for the swearing in of successive Governors following their inauguration. The hall has a concert hall and a theatre, which provides many important culture events to be held.
Queen's Pier, named after Queen Victoria, was a public pier in front of the City Hall. it served not only as a public pier in day-to-day use but also as a major ceremonial arrival and departure point. The pier witnessed the official arrival in Hong Kong of all of Hong Kong's governors since 1925; Elizabeth II landed there in 1975, as did the Prince and Princess of Wales in 1989. It was demolished in 2008 due to land reclamation.
The Ferry Pier was the third generation of Star Ferry Pier in Central. It was built in 1957 and demolished in 2007 due to land reclamation. The fourth generation pier was moved to Central Pier in 2006 (not included in the map).
