This build is a representation of a typical fire station found in American cities. This particular style of architecture was common in the early 20th century, and thus fire stations like this can often be found in industrial cities such as New York, Detroit, Boston, Philadelphia, Chicago, and Pittsburgh to name a few. While many stations were closed and converted into museums, restaurants, and apartments, others are still in service and have been retrofitted to keep up with changing technology and larger modern fire trucks, as is the case with this firehouse.
This station is home to Engine Company 17 of the fictional Scottsburg Fire Department. Opened in 1908, this company provides first responder services to a 2-square mile section of the city home to around 16,500 residents. The firehouse is staffed with seven firefighters at a time, including a Lieutenant, Captain or Battalion Chief as the duty officer. Six firefighters crew the fire engine, while one stays in the watchroom to wait for a dispatch and maintain the firehouse while the crew is out on calls. On average, Engine 17 runs 12 calls per day, including vehicle accidents and medical emergencies. The company responds to 4 building fires a week, which includes assisting other fire companies, and about 15% of the fires the company responds to is in its own district. With over 100 years of service in one of the busiest parts of town, Engine Company 17 is likely to continue operating for many years to come, and the heritage it holds remains strong.
This was a fun build for me, as I have been a volunteer firefighter for the past five years, so naturally it was easy for me create an accurate build. Since the average person doesn't know much about the American fire service, I thought it would be cool to include a bit of history and paint a picture of what the daily life of an urban fire company is like. I hope everyone enjoyed this build, and also learned something new! Please leave a diamond and subscribe for more!

Have something to say?
Though, how did you set up the gear racks?
