Nuclear Mining Facility - Mars project entry

My entry to the contest. Still am going to add spaceships/hovercrafts, interiors, mining equipment, and more buildings on the ground.

Once water on Mars was discovered, it was only a matter of a few years before there were manned spacecrafts landing on the moon. The human race was bound for extinction if they couldn't find a source of power for their ever growing society. Once the fossil fuels were run dry from Earth, Mankind knew what it had to do. The brave astronauts explored Mars, in search of a new source of fuel. They found a sticky, slimy material there that seemed to emit a faint glow. They took a portion back to the laboratories of Earth for some examination. It was an extremely radioactive material later named "Echrius". They found that when melted into a more liquidy substance, the material emitted an outstanding amount of heat. The humans quickly colonised mars and started collecting this material, seemingly abundant on mars. Little did they know, other beings, more powerful and advanced beings, were in search of this "Echrius" also. The attacks on the mining settlements soonly started. The large amounts of this radioactive material could be sensed from galaxies away by extraterrestrial societies, in search of fuels for their massive populations. It took little time for the Humans to develop strong ways of defense against these intruders, and the attacks grew less often. By the year 2092, the attacks almost stopped. The only things that need to be destroyed by defenses now are incoming comets. There have been constant efforts for moving some people from Earth to Mars, but there are no volunteers for the project due to the large amount of propaganda by skeptics and conspiracy theorists. Housing units have been created at this mining facility, but they remain vacant, with nobody to call them home.

I decided not to finish it, due to lack of intrest. If I do well, yay.
