Overview:
- This project implements a bidirectional converter between the IEEE 754 half-precision floating-point format and a scientific notation BCD format entirely in vanilla Minecraft using redstone logic.
- The map is compatible with Minecraft Java Edition 1.18 and all later versions.
- Operands are encoded using the IEEE 754 half-precision floating-point format, comprising a 1-bit sign, 5-bit exponent, and 10-bit mantissa.
- An online IEEE 754 converter is available for converting floating-point values.
- The SNBCD representation consists of a 1-bit sign, three BCD mantissa digits with an implied decimal point after the first digit, a 1-bit exponent sign, and a 3-bit binary exponent.
- Sign; nibble 1; (decimal point); nibble 2; nibble 3; exponent sign; 3-bit exponent
- Normal numbers
- Positive and negative zero
- Positive and negative infinity
- Quiet NaN
- Floating-point to scientific notation BCD
- Scientific notation BCD to floating-point
- Invalid Operation
- Overflow
- Underflow
- Inexact
- Results are rounded using the IEEE 754 Round to Nearest, Ties to Even rounding mode.
- The rounding mode is fixed and cannot be configured.
- The implementation is based on the IEEE 754 standard but does not provide full IEEE 754 compliance.
- Subnormal numbers are not supported.
