Lore
This is ArdaCraft's recreation of Forlond, an elven seaport in Forlindon, a land to the west of the Shire. By the time of The Lord of the Rings, it had been continuously inhabited for six thousand years by the Noldor Elves.
Forlond (meaning 'North-Haven') was located at the mouth of an unnamed river that traversed Forlindon, some two hundred miles to the northwest of Mithlond, and across the Gulf of Lune from Harlond. Given that it was mainly inhabited by the Noldor, we came to conclude that the primary palace of Gil-galad (the sixth and last High King of the Noldor) would have been located there. Gil-galad perished in combat with Sauron at the end of the Second Age, and as such his palace now lies in ruins.
As the Elves (and most particularly the Noldor, as they have a strong connection to the West) have been leaving Middle-earth for thousands of years, most of Forlond is deserted and ruinous, with only a fraction of its original population clustered in the centre of the city.
Construction
Despite being so ruined, Forlond is one of our largest projects. Like all our other projects, realism is one of our main concerns, and as such the inhabitants of the city all have tasks - whether they're farmers, fishermen, potters, weavers, rope-makers, bakers, or even the manager of the bathouse! We also have realistic farms outside the city, as well as allotments and orchards within its ruined walls. This means that the build is filled with little details that no series of screenshots could do justice to - we highly recommend you come and see it for yourself.
For anyone who is interested in seeing a detailed timeline of the city's construction, the Forlond project thread on our forums provides a good overview.
Forlond forms part of a larger project which seeks to recreate Middle-earth in its entirety. Credit goes to daktubalan for leading this project, and to the entire community of builders for helping out.
Forlond can be viewed from above on ArdaCraft's dynmap. There is no download avaliable, but ArdaCraft is a non-whitelisted server which anyone is welcome to come and explore, provided they have installed our modpack first.
All information can be found on our website.
