FREELANCER'S DEN
Hello all! Yep, I'm visiting PMC after a long while; hope yall been good. Started work life now, so everything's been pretty hectic; it's a nice breather to see PMC still up and about with a classic build contest with a modern twist (lol I've suggested editing exteriors of houses based on interiors, but this works too I guess). Take care in the pandemic everyone!
I had a few objectives in mind when building this for the contest:
- To utilise all the space of the house (and inadvertently as a response to quarantine), the inhabitant should be a worker from home with all the equipment they need
- The colour palette of the inside would be best matching with the Blue Lakes exterior (brown, grey, white and blue)
- The garden landscape is chosen to be blocky (including the ground, the trees and bushes) to suit the modern theme
- I wanted to explore NBT values of tricky blocks: fences, plants, glass panes and armor stands, to get never-seen-before furniture!
What better person to live in this estate would there be other than the humble Freelancer who designs cities, 3D prints things, repairs cars, paints stuff and is a pro gamer?! Enjoy the build!
FUN FACT(S):
The trendy 3D printing was actually first conceived in the 1980s under the machine technology 'stereolithography' by Chuck Hill of 3D Systems. These used lasers to solidify photopolymers to create 3D parts layer by layer - now widely used for rapid prototyping and on demand manufacturing. Fried Vancraen, the CEO of one of the first 3D printing companies later messed around with another 3D printing concept - FDM or Fused / Fumbling (idk) Deposition Modelling. He "deposited" molten metal paste on a wire structure to make small statues, without a computer of course.

This is truly amazing!!!
Couldn't help myself to download this map and wander through it to look at every spot.
So please, bear with me in this long - slightly critical - comment.
Darn that motorbike & car details on it. Only thing that bugs me is the car servicing jack. The blocks between the piston is 3 while the blocks between the tires of the humvee/car is 4....
Does the 'PWNPIE' taste better with an additional tablespoon of awesome? Only 1 seems so meager compared to all the cups of euphoria ;-)
Glad you made some wider stairs in this build, was one of things I didn't like from the blue lakes. Only thing is, it seems perfect made for some kids or drunken persons to fall down quite some stairs.
Squat toilets, is quite a way to break with the standard toilets you see in everyone's (including my own's) entries. But the few times I actually used them, (and once only realizing afterwards that the note on the other stall said 'western style' when in high need... ... ) no thank you.
The dive in aquarium is nicely made, but it feels it sits in a 'forgotten' corner. I couldn't find a spot where you could sit and simply ponder in thoughts while viewing the fishes. However you do realize it is above you due to some water drops falling down as there is only one block above the workplace with the macbook before you (nice touch, to add a logo).
The outside is quite the green paradise with all the stuff growing, bit twisting roads (nice pavements with each a different single block) to create a feeling it is bigger than it actually is. Nice ponds/fountains, it sure looks climate adaptive ready/heat stress resistant. I do hope the owners has a hired a gardener to keep everything in shape. It doesn't seem well suited for a robot lawnmower.
By the way, are those potatoes (player heads) just harvested or popped up above ground (they don't).
Anyway, excellent made and I hope the time before your next project is less than 2 years 'legend' ;-)
Looked through most of those, and yep might actually update the map thanks to you :D now that I look at it, the house's general safety is pretty sloppy. Also been thinking of removing the overhead lamp above the model for a while now to provide better view of the aquarium.
Too much awesome on the PWNPIE wouldn't be wise, it'll be too good that the pie won't last very long (euphoria ain't that easy to get)
Potatoes can do what they want. lol.
Thanks for all that though! I'd try to criticise on your build but everything looks so clean :O Maybe switch out the blocky bottoms of the people with stone walls maybe? A common technique I found that most of the good entries in the contest is glitching out fence / glass directions, piston heads and floating plants - you can do this with building mods / plugins like worldedit and voxelsniper (or command blocks for the longest way). You'll have much more creative interiors :)
Might screw around with some armor stands to create persons and might add some small things here and there.
Those glitching things is not something I have dabbled with, neither world-edit or voxelsniper. I still mostly use an old mc-edit in minecraft 1.12.X, so yeah might dive into those.
Small feet, the criticism. I look forward to the - possible - updated map
Left out the car jacks, alot of the shelves and floor wouldve changed by making it four wide xP
