IJN Kaga (Full interrior)

IJN Kaga was an aircraft carrier of the Imperial Japanese Navy, originally laid down as a Tosa-class battleship, but converted into a carrier in the 1920s. She was 247 meters (811 feet) long and had a full-load displacement of about 38,800 tons. Powered by steam turbines, Kaga could reach speeds of 28 knots (52 km/h or 32 mph).


After a major refit in the 1930s, she was equipped with three flight decks (later rebuilt into one long flight deck) and carried up to 90 aircraft, including fighters, bombers, and torpedo planes.


Kaga was part of the elite First Air Fleet and played a major role in early WWII operations — including the attack on Pearl Harbor and battles in the Pacific. She met her end at the Battle of Midway in June 1942, when U.S. dive bombers set her ablaze and she had to be scuttled by a Japanese destroyer.
