IJN Nagato was a super-dreadnought battleship of the Imperial Japanese Navy and the lead ship of the Nagato-class, launched in 1919 and commissioned in 1920. She was 215.8 meters (708 feet) long and had a full-load displacement of about 39,000 tons. With steam turbines, she could reach speeds of 26.5 knots (49 km/h or 30.5 mph).
Nagato was the first battleship in the world armed with 410 mm (16.1-inch) guns, carrying eight of them in four twin turrets. She also had strong secondary batteries and later upgrades added a solid anti-aircraft suite. Her armor protection included up to 305 mm on the belt and 369 mm on the turrets.
Nagato served as the flagship of Admiral Yamamoto during the attack on Pearl Harbor and saw action throughout WWII. She survived the war and was used as a target ship in Operation Crossroads nuclear tests at Bikini Atoll in 1946, where she sank after the second blast.
