Title: Oikèma
Architect: Claude-Nicolas Ledoux (1736-1806)
Claude-Nicolas Ledoux was one of France's most visionary architects of the 18th century, being a utopian revolutionary and one of the earliest exponents of neoclassical architecture. Although his ouvre was composed almost exclusively by smaller scale domestic projects, his lasting legacy was in his conception of a utopian city, that of the Ideal City of Chaux (which was never built). Among the buildings in this city was "Oikèma" which he subtitled "Fragments d'un monument Grec" (Fragments of a Greek monument), and would have served as a building related to regulations of major public health issues that were considered essential for the proper function of a society.
