Loqua City
Loqua City is a modern city build set in the near future. At its heart, it focuses on an undertone of realism, but amplified to be slightly more colorful and lively, and augmented here and there with hints of curious futurism. Loqua is set as a coastal city in a subtropical climate akin to the southern half of the US’s eastern seaboard, and sports a population of just over a million people within the city proper.
In the mid-2040s, Loqua City celebrates its 200th birthday amidst technological revolution, an encroaching ocean, and a changed cityscape as a 20-year wave of growth and development nears its end. Since present day, entire districts have been built or built over, as the gleaming Loquan downtown and gentrified tributaries cover up decades of hasty climate response, under regulated housing prices, and rewritten history. As the city reemerges as a distribution and manufacturing powerhouse driven by technology, its survival depends on whether it can direct its newfound wealth towards completing its ambitious infrastructure projects before the next 100-year storm hits.
Loqua is located on a large coastal island that includes Loqua City itself, suburban areas and rural farmland, mountain forests, an army base and major port, and on the far side of the island, another smaller coastal downtown. The footprint of what’s been built so far is the most dense half of the main city, although lots of individual buildings and interiors still need to be done.
Technologically, Loqua is heavily integrated with server side modding and plugin development to facilitate emergent gameplay in the city as it is being created. A deeply abstracted interaction system facilitates working elevators, escalators, light switches, neon signs, and playable card games, with many more interactive elements actively being worked on (including card readers, ATMs, garage doors, umbrellas, and lots of vehicles, just to name a few).
Loqua City as a whole is a project manned by a small group of a few friends. The build itself has come a long way, but we're nowhere near finished! At present, it is masterminded by one main builder and one main developer, with a handful of adjunct contributors. As we strive to make the project more public, we’ll be interested in expanding the team and growing our capacity to realize everything we have planned. Stay tuned!
