I've been working on a Science Fiction series for the last few years and recently I decided to start modeling various things from it in Minecraft. One of those is a Martian colony.

In the story, the colony is a large, primarily mining, colony with a capacity of over 10,000 residents. The Martian colonies, some 600 years from now, are constructed of large, cell structures connected by hallways, as well as monorail like trains and underground service cooridors. These cells can be added as needed as long as the colony has the utility capacity to power and supply them.

I am currently in the early stages of building these cells, starting with a residential cell, a communication cell and a power plant cell. I have quite a few more cells to build before I can even start assembling the colony with MCedit, so their will be lots of updates to come. I am also working on tailoring a redsand map in WorldPainter with terrain desined to work with the colony.

The colony will be complete with all the hallways, monorails, and underground service cooridors and will be completely friendly to walk through. Future cells and structures to be built include storage/supply, industrial commercial, municipal center, agricultural, local comm tower, landing docks, high end residential, surface mining crawlers out around the colony as well as docked to industrial cells, and ships.

It's going to be a long project, but I'm excited about it. And while I'm not ready yet, I do hope to upload world files and structure walk throughs in the future, so stay tuned. Also, let me know what you think.
