Theia

Update: Someone generously made an interactive map for this world if you would like some help finding your way around

Theia was an ancient planet that collided with Earth 4.51 billion years ago. It was around the size of Mars and makes up much of what we now call our moon. The name itself is of Greek origin. Theia was the titaness of shining light and the clear, blue sky.

The map itself is 22 784 x 17 152 blocks and is the biggest map I have ever created and probably ever will create. The download size alone is 2.22 GB compressed. It was completely created in Worldpainter. Because of this every landmass has been hand painted by me. The Pangea-like continent sits in the Northern Hemisphere of the planet and contains biomes from tundra to desert, jungle to plains, taiga forest to Mediterranean coastline and more. There is more than enough room in the world for 20+ cities and innumerable towns, villages and hamlets.

The spawn is located in the North-West section of the map, in the bay where the tundra stops. The map has caves, ores and animals. The sea is at level 40 instead of 60 so the terrain can be slightly more varied and epic and not affect gameplay. The map is also survival friendly.

BIOME TYPES
-Arctic
-Tundra
-Snow taiga
-Regular taiga
-Taiga Plains
-Mountain
-Pine Forest
-Scottish
-Rohan Plains
-Swamp
-Marsh
-French
-Birch Forest
-English
-Covered Forest
-Mediterranean
-Alps
-Yosemite
-Savannah
-Sand Savannah
-Desert
-Rift Valley
-Mesa
-Sand Cliffs
-Salt flats
-Oriental
-Hawaii/jungle
-Galapagos

Acknowledgements
I'd like to give a massive thanks to Lentebresje for his amazing brushes and trees. Without them this map would have never been made.
Darth Engima for his amazing pine trees that I slightly edited from his tree pack.
TylerTimoj for his great hill brushes.
LemonFox for his great trees.
Monsterfish for his beautiful Conquered_ pack

For the photos I used Minecraft's default texture pack and the conquestofthesun shader.

I have already begun building on the map and will happily upload projects about it if anybody wants to see.

If you want to use this map I would like due credit. Use it for anything you want, but I want to see and be amazed at what you all build. I'd love to see pictures!

Hey there Swiqx, there's a lot of biomes so I'm not going to write out all of the coords but the interactive map in the description says them in the bottom left had side for anywhere you want to go.

What the

Oh god
I have to give props to the creator because this map is so large and detailed that I'm stuck on the smallest island and still trying to find all of it on the map.

Haha. Even I too get lost exploring the map sometimes. It's fun trying to find the beach you're one by flying about and looking at the map for help.
Gotta use it to create a medieval world right now! (not a server tho, just for fun)
Thanks you very much dude :D

When I download this map it downloads as a word document. Any help?
Hi, I'm interested in starting an RP fantasy server based around this map. This was the best one I've found so far, especially with all the unique biomes. Just wanted to let you know, thanks a lot for posting this, from me and everyone in my community!

Allright. Awesome Map. I really like it. It's beautiful.

The only thing I don't understand is: Why did you decide to put several thousand little Lava and Water Blocks underground, like it is known for coal and Iron and such stuff?

I'm playing this map on survival. And it's really really annoying if you want to dig a mine, if you face small Lava or Water drops over and over again.

Very very big Lava Lake? No Problem, just dig around. Big Water field? Easy, just dig around. But all these little and small Lava and Water spots are driving me crazy :((

Can you remove them please?

I wish I could. For some reason worldpainter puts them in the ground and I don;t think you can disable them. I don't like them either.

Wow, thats strange. I tried to use the worldpainter, too. But for some unknown reason he don't like my Java Installation and I don't get it to run.

I tried to use McEdit to replace the Water and Lava Spots, but this one will also regret to cooperate with me -.-

Well okay. Thank you trying, your map is really beautiful! I will finde somwhow a solution for my problem :-)
I can't find the Map ingame

Hey Valjeta, i just wanted to tell you that there is a german roleplay server who downloaded your map, added a little few changes and sells that now as his own map .. he also didnt metioned you in any way, but he says that he made that map on his own instead. if you want to take a look at that "self made map" - here are the links to the server and the map:

This is hard to believe...
Thanks so much for sharing, it's a really beautiful blank canvas.
It will take a lot of exploring to even begin to start building,.
That virtual map is very handy, it took me a moment to notice, it shows the coordinates where ever you point.
That will be a huge time saver.
Again, I just can't believe this.
I'm complaining how long it takes to look at, and you actually conceived and built it!
Thank you again so much for this.

I hope you enjoy looking around the map, it took a long time to build. The virtual map is really useful for looking around. If you build anything on the map I would love to see it.
Never mind I found my way around...
Hey this map is amazing, but I am having a hard time finding my way around... Could I get some cords to some key locations to find my way around.

I love the keep you've built in the first couple of photos in the marsh! I recognised the spot instantly because that's why I put the hill there :P The town looks impressive too, I really like the church tower. All of it looks really realistic. Please feel free to send me more projects when you build them because I'd love to see.

This is a fantastic looking map. Would it be possible to get a version with an ocean border? The cliffs take away from the look just a little.
Hello! Just want to say this map is amaaaazing. Love it and it is so beautiful. You are awesome at this world painting and I am amazed. It's honestly stunning. However I was wondering if I would be able to use this for my own RP server? I plan to allow all the builds be player based and the server is already up with an alternate world sector. Overall this map would be a wonderful addition if you would allow it. The lore for my server is already set up and just being formatted on the forums at this point. 24/7 uptime now, and it is heavy fantasy, Medieval/ -very early- industrial steampunk based. But the terrain.. It's just so diverse and I feel like it would allow for a lot of RP Character development for each and every unique character that would come join us. Could I please use this map? All credit will go for you and I will definitely be featuring this on my page!!!

Sorry for taking so long to reply. Of course you can use the map for your server, I would be honoured. I'd love credit but other than that you can do all you want with it.
Awesome! Thank you so much! ^-^ Have a wonderful day!~
I work for a server, and I am the head of their build team. We fell in love with your map but sadly, we had some pretty big problems loading it onto our server. When loaded in it only had strips of your map and the rest of the strips were normal terrain. Do you know anything about this, like what might be causing it?
Great work!

Not saying this isn't original, but the map in the screenshot looks very similar to Yarowyn by Lord Dakr. Not the same but similar.

I can see what you mean, but his looks a lot more blobby. I guess the eastern part looks kind-of similar just because there's a desert and mesa, but the rest looks pretty different to me. The North is going to look similar because there's snow everywhere like in most fantasy maps but the rest doesn't fit. If anything his reminds me more of Tamriel from the Elder Scrolls.

Is this fully survival ready? as in villagers / desert and jungle temples / ocean monuments? or is it just ores and whatnot are spawned in? thanks!

Unfortunately there are no structures like villages etc because the ocean monuments would spawn in and ruin a lot of the terrain, but there are ores and some caves.

Sure thing! I'll have a go at it when I get home in a couple of hours.
This is ridiculous. How on Earth did you actually create something like this? I am currently trying to set up a survival server and because I hate default Minecraft terrain, I was going to make a terrain, but WorldPainter crashed as soon as I loaded the world size I wanted. So I gave up and came on PMC looking for something... and my head blew up. So.... Can i use this for my server? I read the comment thread about the caves and to be quite honest, I don't give a damn. I can add them in myself if I need to. Thanks again for the amazing terrain!

You sure can use it! The caves won't be game breaking, just make mining a little more boring.
I'd love to come on the server if I could and see what you've built.
Thanks so much! I'll tell you when the server's up!

edit: BTW can i have co-ordinates for that Mediterranean archway? I wanted to build my server spawn around it. Thanks

The coordinates are
x 5000
z 100
y 4200
I would have replied earlier but planetminecraft was down for maintenance.
Thanks for the co-ordinates. I know about PMC being down. My Server actually can't take the map at the moment (not enough space) so I'm unfortunately going to have to use a smaller map until I have a higher budget, but I will install this one as soon as I can! Thanks for the amazing map BTW. :)

That gave me a chuckle. Yea the map size is pretty big, I'd completely understand if you don't use it. It's your decision.
This is... monumental! I can't believe what I'm seeing, it's still hard to take all of it in as I download it.

I'm trying to get into worldpainter worlds such as yours, as I'm a lore/world dev for a soon-to-be rp server. Do mind telling me whether you do your trees by hand or if they're schematics?

Again, thank you for this blessing of a map, it's simply amazing.

Thanks for the compliments!
The trees I use are a mix of the default worldpainter trees and custom objects from tree packs. The vast majority of these are lentebriesje's tree repository and the conquered trees. These are bo2 files which I believe are pretty much the same as schematic files.
I also took some of DarthEnigma's trees and replaced the modded blocks with vanilla ones. I saved those as schematic files using mcedit.

I'd be happy to answer any other questions you have and would love to see the map if you do make it!
Thank you so much, Valjeta! I appreciate the help! ^-^

I'll be absolutely sure to ask you if I have any more questions, and will be more than happy to let you know when the server goes up!
