Theia

Update: Someone generously made an interactive map for this world if you would like some help finding your way around

Theia was an ancient planet that collided with Earth 4.51 billion years ago. It was around the size of Mars and makes up much of what we now call our moon. The name itself is of Greek origin. Theia was the titaness of shining light and the clear, blue sky.

The map itself is 22 784 x 17 152 blocks and is the biggest map I have ever created and probably ever will create. The download size alone is 2.22 GB compressed. It was completely created in Worldpainter. Because of this every landmass has been hand painted by me. The Pangea-like continent sits in the Northern Hemisphere of the planet and contains biomes from tundra to desert, jungle to plains, taiga forest to Mediterranean coastline and more. There is more than enough room in the world for 20+ cities and innumerable towns, villages and hamlets.

The spawn is located in the North-West section of the map, in the bay where the tundra stops. The map has caves, ores and animals. The sea is at level 40 instead of 60 so the terrain can be slightly more varied and epic and not affect gameplay. The map is also survival friendly.

Acknowledgements
I'd like to give a massive thanks to Lentebresje for his amazing brushes and trees. Without them this map would have never been made.
Darth Engima for his amazing pine trees that I slightly edited from his tree pack.
TylerTimoj for his great hill brushes.
LemonFox for his great trees.
Monsterfish for his beautiful Conquered_ pack

For the photos I used Minecraft's default texture pack and the conquestofthesun shader.

I have already begun building on the map and will happily upload projects about it if anybody wants to see.

If you want to use this map I would like due credit. Use it for anything you want, but I want to see and be amazed at what you all build. I'd love to see pictures!

Mhh... there's something wrong with it. IT couldn't be uploaded to our server, there we're lots of errors. What a pity, anyway, thanks for that amazing masterpiece !

That's sad to hear, must have been a problem with the download. It's a big file and minecraft maps tend to get nasty when the file is corrupted.

Great map, but from what I have seen it is seriously lacking in ore's and mine shafts.

I didn't touch the ore count from worldpainter's base amounts but the mine shafts are removed because generate structures also creates ocean monuments and they ruin the terrain.

Hey Valjeta-Dawn! I have taken the liberty to use your map on my Minecraft server, Steel Raids, what is your Minecraft username so I can give you some free swag? I know you may never play but I wanted to do it anyways.

Also We have given you credit by adding your name to the Featherboard on the side, is that good enough?

Love the map!

Hey there SharpSsharpie. My Minecraft username is ValjetaDawn. Loving the look of your server, it's looking great with all of the little towns and villages popping up. The featherboard looks fine to me, and thanks for the stuff, I might hop on the server and have a look around if I have the time.

There is an island very very far to the west, that has a ton of animals on it. but it has been cut in half. 1 solid flat wall. facing east. was that island intended?

Doesn’t sound like it is. I’m not sure what island it is but I tried not to put any islands near the world border.

You could try it with mcedit maybe but the map might be too big for it. I'm not too sure on what you could use to do it.

I'm pretty sure that shouldn't be a problem but if it is you need to decompress the file. If you have WinRAR then right click on the file and choose 'extract here'
Hey there Valjeta-Dawn, I wanted to say that I really love the map and world you've done. I'm using the Conquest Reforged and going through and making a medieval style castle/city and the realistic terrain of the world helps immensely.

However, I originally intended on switching over to survival once I got it finished and to play on a survival world with a city/castle already built. But as I am seeing, there are very few ores generated naturally, and the bigger downfall, no structures. I have some mods which include additional structures into the game for survival play, such as Roguelike Dungeons. But without the world able to generate them, I'm at a bit of a loss for switching over to survival, which has also put me off on working on building the city and castle fully.

I understand on the world not generating structures due to the ocean temples placement, as another world I once downloaded had temples all over the place. Is it not possible to edit the placement of the ocean temples so that 1: They only appear below a certain point, and 2: they only appear where there is water registered in an area? Or even take the ocean temples out of the generated structure list, and instead go with other structures, such as villages, jungle/desert temples.. and more importantly, mod generated structures - which use the default generated structure code for spawning in. A couple of other mods which I have, require progression through naturally spawned structures, so without them, I can't use the mods on the world, and thus, I start to lose my interest in a survival play. And since I can't build my city/castle to convert for survival play - well, I start to lose interest entirely.

Hey DracoFlame, You're right about the ore spawns being rarer than the default Minecraft. I decreased the amount for ore spawns but made the ore sized larger so that finding a vein feels more rewarding. The issue with generated structures unfortunately still can't be fixed to my knowledge and still annoys me. There is a single checkbox in worldpainter whether you want generated structures or not. There is no choices for what generated structures can spawn. If I had the ability to enable all structures except water temples I would have activated them but sadly I can't. Unfortunately I can't think of any way for you to be able to play with randomly generated structures at all.
Hey Dawn! I'm seriously in love with your maps and your worldpainter skills. I was wondering what version of minecraft is this map intended for? Hope you reply soon!

Hey there Wendigo, sorry for such a late reply. The map was made for minecraft 1.11, but I'm pretty sure the new updates can run it, they just won't have the new blocks. Hope his answer helps even a few weeks after you asked.
just curious, how do you create a map that big on worldpainter? i set my map size to 16k x 16k and when i generate the map it drops it down to 8k x 8k. i have a fairly decent computer, not sure how to change the settings though.

The map was originally a lot smaller but worldpainter allows you to add/remove tiles onto the map. I think it's in edit > add/remove tiles. You can make your map bigger and smaller if you want.

I think planetminecraft compresses all images that you put in it. If you do open the image to fullscreen and wait for it to load it might be bigger though, not too sure.

Hey man I absolutly love your map. I am looking for an amazing map to build on and I checked out everything and I always come back to this one since it has something others dont I dont know what it is. I dont know if you would still work on this one, but what I would love is, if you would convert this map together with the Conquest Reforged Mod to use its custom terrain and landscape blocks. This map would look stunning. I know its a hecking huge task, but it may be an idea :)

Allright. Awesome Map. I really like it. It's beautiful.

The only thing I don't understand is: Why did you decide to put several thousand little Lava and Water Blocks underground, like it is known for coal and Iron and such stuff?

I'm playing this map on survival. And it's really really annoying if you want to dig a mine, if you face small Lava or Water drops over and over again.

Very very big Lava Lake? No Problem, just dig around. Big Water field? Easy, just dig around. But all these little and small Lava and Water spots are driving me crazy :((

Can you remove them please?

Wow, thats strange. I tried to use the worldpainter, too. But for some unknown reason he don't like my Java Installation and I don't get it to run.

I tried to use McEdit to replace the Water and Lava Spots, but this one will also regret to cooperate with me -.-

Well okay. Thank you trying, your map is really beautiful! I will finde somwhow a solution for my problem :-)

Hey Valjeta, i just wanted to tell you that there is a german roleplay server who downloaded your map, added a little few changes and sells that now as his own map .. he also didnt metioned you in any way, but he says that he made that map on his own instead. if you want to take a look at that "self made map" - here are the links to the server and the map:

This is hard to believe...
Thanks so much for sharing, it's a really beautiful blank canvas.
It will take a lot of exploring to even begin to start building,.
That virtual map is very handy, it took me a moment to notice, it shows the coordinates where ever you point.
That will be a huge time saver.
Again, I just can't believe this.
I'm complaining how long it takes to look at, and you actually conceived and built it!
