Hi everyone so today I made a medieval castle with a working drawbridge and portcullis.
A list of the parts and their use


moat

The moat was a deep ditch usually filled with water that surrounded a castle or manor and was used to help keep intruders from trying to climb the walls; it was also used to drain sewage.

gatehouse

The gatehouse was an entrance to the castle that was protected and had a drawbridge and a portcullis, used to help keep intruders out of the castle.

drawbridge

The drawbridge was large wooden plank going across the moat leading to the gatehouse, and was used to let people into the castle and could go up and down.

portcullis

The portcullis was a line of columns that consisted of metal spikes down through the center of the gatehouse that could be raised and lowered and was used as one of the last lines of defense for the castle.

towers

Towers were tall and hollow cylinder structures usually located at the corners of the outside walls. They were used to let soldiers climb up on top of the outside walls to get onto the wall walks and turrets.

turret

A turret was a lookout area located on top of a tower, and they were used to let people lookout onto the area surrounding the castle to find oncoming intruders.

wall walk

The wall walk was an area located on top of the outside walls where soldiers would defend the castle.

outside walls

The outside walls were tall rectangular prisms made of stone that kept intruders from walking into the bailey.

keep

A keep was a building usually located in the center of the bailey where the royal family and the servants slept and lived.

bailey

The bailey was a plot of land enclosed by the outside walls and was used as the area where the keep was located.

flags

The flags were banners hung on top of a tall stick which were planted on top of the turrets and towers and was colored to show the castle or nation’s colors and patriotism to the nation.
