if you have a map, you have to hit fn and f2 at the same time

Have you tried F2 in Minecraft and then going to %appdata% in the start search tab, followed by .minecraft, and then Screenshots?

Well, if it's a PC, and it's already used, do shift + f2. I have a laptop and f2 is used for brightness, but shift + f2 makes the computer use what f2 is assigned for. Otherwise, you can config your button settings in the menu if you have 1.7 and above.
