This is a model of my parents' farm house. It's really old and has been in the family for two generations thus far and was old back when my grandfather bought the place.
This house isn't built to scale. Instead I aimed to build each room to look and feel like the real house, starting with the kitchen. The side door from the kitchen faces the drive way and this is where guests are greeted and primarily entertained. This is also where the family likes to hang out socially for the most part. We are very food oriented as a whole so it only made since to me to start with this room to make sure it came out right.
I had to take some liberties with the lighting since in real life the light in there REALLY STINKS. So I did the best I could while trying not to alter the feel of the house. I ended up flooding the basement with light since it's the darkest room in the house and I didn't want it to be a monster spawning bed. I tested the house in hard mode for survival safety purposes and nothing spawned inside the house.
I converted the master bedroom into a library complete with an enchantment table. There are three bedrooms upstairs - all furnished like it used to be when my siblings and I were kids (there were 5 of us total).
There is also some attic space that doesn't exist in the real life house but I couldn't see filling up the space after building the peaked roof the house does have. Seriously though, since when in Minecraft has there been such a thing as too much storage space?
I left fire spread turned on to make sure the fireplaces would not set the place on fire.
The only unfurnished room in the house is the sun room porch since it has long since collasped and been torn down. I can barely remember it beyond it being box shaped - which is probably why it ultimately collasped since flat roofs do not hold up well to freezing rain and heavy snow.
Please give this project a diamond if you feel I did well in making this house an appealing, yet functional, survival dwelling.
In any case, I hope you enjoy it.

Gorgous work.
PS- I too, am a mother to special needs boys. MC helps de-stress after one of THOSE days. Plus we have the benefit of playing together.
