This build on the Darwin Reforged server depicts an Anglo-Irish Tower House, and the plot was submitted to rank-up to the level of builder (Member) on the server.

The following is an excerpt from the main source of inspiration for this project as well as from the Wikipedia article on the Norman conquest of Ireland.

"Tower houses are a type of late medieval Irish castle, believed to have originated around 1300, or sometime within the 14th century, but most are probably from the 15th to the 17th centuries. By the 17th century, this would have made Ireland the most heavily castellated part of the British Isles. The tower house signifies changes in Ireland: on one hand it shows a resurgence in Gaelic power in the west after years of decline following the coming of the Normans in the 12th century. On the flip side it is a sign of the collapse of centralized power in the form of the English monarchy and a rise in decentralization."

This project contains the main tower/keep as well as a portion of the bailey which would be surrounded by a rough stone "bawn" wall. there are also several outbuildings including a kennel, stables, blacksmith, kitchen, servants hut, and peat-fueld bread oven.

This project focuses on the main keep which has several floors and other features. The ground floor contains the lobby, with strong oak doors protecting the storage room and the stairs leading to the first floor. In the roof of the lobby is a murder-hole accessed from the floor above. The rest of the ground floor is made up of the storage room with a vaulted stone ceiling.

The 1st floor contains a small kitchen and sleeping quarters for servants and soldiers. It also is where weapons are stored and contains the murder-hole room and access to the hoardings above the front gate. From here a spiral staircase leads to the floors above.

The Second floor is the private residence of the lord and his family. It contains a solar with a spinning wheel and loom for the ladies of the house as well as sitting areas and a small area for worship. There are two bedrooms attached to the solar as well as a garderobe.

The third floor is the dining hall and meeting room for the lord and his household. Meals would be taken here and important business would take place in this large open space.

The top of the keep contains the battlements with crenelated walls and machiculations for defense.
