2023.

A lone jeep sped down Route 101. Emblazoned on its sides are the words "BRAZILIAN NATIONAL GUARD" - though it is hard to make out due to significant wear and tear. The vehicle and its occupants have come a long way - nearly 5 years on the road and pitstops at various cities to resupply.

The pandemic has really taken its toll on mankind: at Caracas, infected bodies littered the streets. The Panama Canal in Panama City is jammed with half-sunken cruise liners and supertankers that will never reach the open sea. Mexico City offered no respite either; the city was practically levelled, the result of bombing runs conducted by the air force in an attempt to curb the raging global pandemic. By the time they crossed the unguarded US border and reached Los Angeles, nature had already claimed back most of the cityscape and not a single soul was in sight.

One of the generals in the jeep sat straight and took a breather. Dusk has started to set in, and they had departed from the ruins of San Francisco some two hours ago. This group of people only had one objective: to locate any signs of human life and hopefully work together to establish a community. Disappointingly, after all these weeks they are starting to doubt the possibility of any life here in the west coast. Perhaps they should've gone to the east side? Maybe Denver or Washington could still have uninfected people. But before that we hope to check out Vancou-

Wham!

The sudden harsh beam of light blinded the driver momentarily, causing the vehicle to screech to a stop. Above them circled an attack helicopter with US Army insignia. They haven't even seen it coming let alone heard it: it just...appeared.

"Attention all personnel in the vehicle. This is ISOLON-28. We mean you no harm. We are just out here on routine patrol to locate any living citizens. If you could kindly, please follow us." The helicopter pilot's voice boomed through the loudspeakers.

After a few minutes, the chopper began heading in the direction that the Brazilians were heading, so naturally they followed it too. After around 20 minutes of driving, they saw it. A gargantuan suspension bridge guarding the San Francisco Bay. Illuminating the once-more starry night sky.

...or what's left of it. The further side of the bridge had already collapsed, leaving the residents clambering for space on the nearer side.

¿? Project Description

Pacific Point is the name given to a community living on the art-deco Golden Gate Bridge, established 10 months after the global pandemic of a mutant SARS virus, originating from Shanghai, that managed to wipe out nearly 99.36% of the global population. The surviving populations around the globe have relocated to relatively disease-free areas and set up communities, with their top academics trying to find a cure.

The humans living here reside in "stacked houses", constructed out of various materials they can scavenge-corrugated metal tiles, bricks, iron bars, pipes, plywood, concrete etc. The houses are piled high and some are even built around the bridge tower, hence giving the essence of a skyscraper.

The residing US military oversees everything and is responsible for on-site defence and legislation. M1A1 Abrams tanks guard the bridge entrance, Apache longbows circle overhead, and various MLRS and armored vehicles are positioned in the vicinity.

I tried to incorporate all these elements the best I could in my build. A rusty ship can be found beached further along the coast. The surrounding terrain is shaped similarly to what the surrounding Golden Gate Bridge landscape looks like in real life, to the best of my ability. Although, it's more forested due to years of uninterrupted human activity.
