This fairly simple mechanism allows you to create a set it and forget it spawner by which to create chickens. I can see this being used in a larger project. The spawner itself does not have any sort of harvesting capabilities. Feel free to use this spawner in your project, but give me credit if you post them please. I'd love to see what others can do with this idea.
See the images for a walkthough.
Once completed, drop some eggs anywhere inside the walls. They will automatically be fed to the dispenser. Which will launch them into the stone block, hopefully creating a new chicken. Any eggs that the chickens then lays will go though the same process. Every new chicken that spawns will make more eggs and more eggs will make more chickens. This will keep the chicken population growing exponentially.
I added a switch to control the population but this is optional.
A few things to consider:
The chickens will spawn faster and faster the longer that you leave the spawner running. This may cause lag if you don't cull them or turn the spawning off.
While it is technically possible to create this as large as you want, I found adding to many hops in the hopper chain led to some lag, which combined with the massive amount of chickens caused problems.
If you use the Schematic and nothing is happening, try cycling the on/off switch.
