I took an idea for a useless invention and brought it to life through Minecraft. I rarely make use of redstones so don't expect more of stuff like this.

Materials used:
Glowstone Lamp
Redstone Dust
Daylight Detector
Block of Iron
Glowstone (Optional; keeps mobs from spawning inside flashlight)

I would think that It would be the other way around.... like, it lights up at night, and turns off by day! Just a suggestion!

I have little understanding of what goes where when making a proper redstone circuit, and come 1.5 that understanding will be lessened. Besides, I tried making a inverse version of a daylight detector but couldn't make it work at night.

Well, I'm not very experienced with light detectors, being that I don't have the snapshot, but I do have a basic understanding of them. To what I know, when they are supplied with light, they emmit a redstone circuit. Now, this might seem alien to you, or not, but you could make a simple inverter which basically makes it when light is applied to the detector, and it emmits a current, it inverts it so that the current is no longer applied. Sadly, I don't have the new snapshot so I can't show you directly, but I can try and make a different version.( one that doesn't work, but has the same redstone excluding the detector)
