The original South Dakota-Class were to be the culmination of the American Standard Battleship line that started a few years prior with the Nevada-Class. As she was an evolution of the Standard design plan, she was very similar to the preceding twelve American Dreadnoughts, with the four turrets, short & wide hull, twin cage masts, & slow top speed (although she was about 4 knots faster than the preceding Standards). She was fairly larger than all the prior standards, on account of her four triple-16" turrets (the natural progression from the Colorado-Class' four twin-16" turrets). The six ships of the South Dakota-Class would have been the South Dakota herself, Indiana, Montana, North Carolina, Iowa, & Massachusetts. With the signing of the Washington Naval Treaty in 1922, the six South Dakota's & four of the six Lexington-Class battlecruisers (designed to be the SoDak's faster contemporaries) were cancelled.
Apparently I'm a really big fan of paper projects (thanks Wargaming :P) because I keep making them over anything actually built. We'll see about alleviating that maybe soon :).
Be sure to use my texture pack or things will not look right!
Built in version 1.18.1, 1:1 scale.
