SpaceShips

"Ive seen a lot of ships come by here in my many years as a platform engineer, seen many big ones, many small ones, some with very large antimatter cannons on them, some with small projectile guns too.  The most were attack class ships, shining new, sparkling paint on them with pretty colors of which ways and yonder, but I never really payed much attention to those much.  Once in a great while I see a lone gunship, a crew lost from an old fleet, some badly damaged, some dead, some with blood splattered all over the inside of cockpit, disgusted in truth and payed my tribute to the dead but moved on.  There was one ship though, I only saw once at the very start on my job some 29 years ago, I was foolish, young, naive and no one really belived the stories of some ameteur newbie who saw the famed "Ghost Ship of Wilmonks", after all that was just a legend.  But even though it was a legend I did see it.  It was an entirely black ship you couldnt make out the shape on another canvas of darkness but its size frightened the stars into hiding under its presense, and you couls carefully trace where it was moving to.  In all stories they saw this thing pass by and then just, unknowingly and randomly dissapear, but this time, not so quickly.  I kept watching it through the skyglass window at the top of the ever rotating station and just as it passed in front of a star, the rotation of the station pulled me out of its incredible view and back into the darkness.  I still remember its shape to this day all these years later, a medium sized dreadnought that was rather thin but had long, spiked tipped appendages in the front and aft of this might ship.  If only it was for an instant I saw the glory of this universe; a ship like no other that held its reign on mortals and men like no other, and kept that awe until it dissapeared again.  Ive been searching for that ship my entire life up to this point, so much that I hired a group of mercs and researchers with my life's savings just to catch another view of it's magnificance.  When the team came up with nothing I was heartbroke, stricken with grief and without money I resumed working at this station and starting saving up again so I could find it for myself. That ship of dreams, that wonder of the universe that inspires countless generations pass through the heavens above and journey out into the unknown.  Thats what life is, a journey, but the best part is all of the fun you have all the while you make that journey.  Its not about the destination that matters, its the adventure the comes with it."
