*UPDATE 7:17pm wednesday 29 june 2011* huge update today, added 17 new block texture examples, signposted absolutely everything, theres now 3 different types of minecart on the track, improved redstone texture display and a welcome sign :D.
the next update will include half block textures and pistons (hopefully).
Are there any commonly used blocks I have missed? If there are could you please let me know in the comments.
just a request, if your going to vote it down or call it crap or whatever, please lend a bit of constructive criticism.
how can i improve it if i don't know what needs improving?
*UPDATE 5:56pm Sunday 19 June 2011* biggest update yet! 2 new monster observation rooms. totally redesigned spawning system, they are now designed to work with monster's natural roaming habits, with a little encouragement of course. also Ive added more blocks for texture testing, there's a portal to the nether, a small railway showing the 3 different types of rails. netherrack powered torches for both lighting and testing of fire textures. and a number of caves have been discovered below the spawn boxes have been found, they will be lit up in the next update to prevent "dark space" noises.
*UPDATE 11:59 pm Thursday 16 June 2011* added a spider observation room similar in style to the creeper observatory. also a minor change to the lighting system in the creeper observation room.
*UPDATE 8pm Thursday 16 June 2011* hasn't even been up on PMC for an hour and its already at version 1.2
changes include improved creeper observation room, addition of some basic block textures including colored wool, obsidian, glass, water, lava, sand, gravel, cobblestone, wood, stone, and all of the various ores. these are now on display.
I got this idea in my head after editing my texture pack a bit, I wanted to change the creeper texture but I had no way of safely viewing the creeper without getting blown to hell, so I got to building a structure that would spawn and contain creepers inside a glass viewing box.
After building this I thought to myself "maybe others might need something similar for their texture packs?"
and thus my first major project began, the goal of this project is to create a world with specially designed viewing boxes for each mob type, and a display of each block type. i plan to update this project as much and as quickly as possible but if you require something fast please let me know and I'll make it a priority.
please note: I use a modified version of the ghost2 128x texture pack but I intend on designing my own.
all screenshots uploaded thus far are using this texture pack.
as of version 1.0 the creeper observation room is up and running.
the next update will include half block textures and pistons (hopefully).

and yeah man signs are a good idea, cant believe i forgot that. *dies*
thanks for the reminder, it will be in the next update :D
keep an eye on it.
anyway unfortunately the next update may take a tad longer than i had hoped, (it was supposed to be up by 10pm wednesday 22nd june) as my pc just decided to die on me. took me 10 minutes just to get video output on screen again, only to find my singleplayercommands mod died. i'm working on it now but as my pc is in a state of unreliability expect it to take a few days :(
