The prototype was first demonstrated in 1997. It consisted of a modified chassis from the T-80U main battle tank, with a newly designed turret installed. A prototype was later developed with the turret mounted on a seven-wheel chassis. The tank was not mass-produced. During demonstrations of prototypes at exhibitions, the turrets were always covered with a dense camouflage net.
