My initial idea was to simulate light coming from the explosion in the middle of the lantern and really play around with the light falling on the smoke. That didn't quite work out as I hoped. So I opted for a more simple design with gray smoke and a contrasting gold detail.

Maybe in the future I will try using light again, but for now I am happy with the result.
