Hello once more, you might ask yourself what talk was that about wider gauges, wonder no more. Here I present to you the first of many of my 2,25m gauge steam locomotives, as if 2m or 1,7m wasn’t enough.
I did take some inspiration from the old GWR engines, mainly the Iron duke and also the City class for later engines and then eventually from some Portuguese engines too.
These engines are all made from a sketch I did once in class, you can find it > here <.Let me know you if you would like to see more of these engines made.
This project features all the both the fictional A1 and A2 series, buit to 3:1 scale. I hope you like it!
HISTORY:
HISTORY:
The A1 was the first steam locomotive employed by CCTF, Companhia Central dos Transportes Ferroviários, (Central Company of Railway Transportation). Since its days of ore transport, they had used wider tracks as a way to get more motive power, which allowed them to carry bigger loads than its competition. On the times were boiler explosions were still a fearful reality, their size made possible to used bigger cylinders that need a lower pressure for the same power output, reducing the explosion risk. As well their recognizable big shiny steam domes allowed for a use of drier steam, improving once more the performance of the engines.
However it was the A2 series that really set the stake for what engines would become. The A1 was more powerful indeed but not as fast as other smaller locomotives. But the A2, with its massive 2,3m drive wheel and traction from the big boiler weight and the larger firebox from the boiler being pushed upward, achieved a new speed record.
