Lothril; home to a continent of lush vegetation, towering trees and the most active wildlife known to Karuta. Lothril has withstood the tests of time and has stood proudly against the Orcs of the North, whose brute strength could have torn it asunder again and again.

Within this emerald sanctuary are the majestic, skillful and dedicated Wood Elves. The oldest race in all of Karuta, these creatures are Brave, determined, beautiful... but these are but some of the words used to describe these mysterious creatures of the forests of Lothril. Trained since they could barely walk, these Wood Elves specialise in
the use of a bow and arrow, alongside an ancient magic that allows them to move within the blink of an eye, and to connect to their natural surroundings.



History:

The protectors of the Forest, of Nature, of Karuta; these Wood Elves will risk everything to protect their homelands. Which have slowly grown smaller and smaller as more of the other races have come forth to take what is not rightfully theirs.

For thousands of years, the elves have thought deadly skirmishes against the Orcs at their borders, keeping them away from their beautiful forests, but when the vampires and humans arrived exactly one thousand years ago, they were forced to back down to reduce the number of lives lost. The vampires used their dark magic to kill off the elf forests in the east. The orcs started burning and conquering in the north. And while the Elven kings united and travelled to the border lands to defend their realms, the human refugees claimed the western part of the world for themselves by force.

Having started at nine Elven Kingdoms and forced back to one, the wood elves of Lothril have succeeded in keeping their location hidden from further attacks and have begun to flourish and reclaim their numbers. With their magic rapidly increasing, their strength and skills becoming more and more honed, the Wood Elves are becoming a force to be reckoned with. The one kingdom the wood elves now reside in is known to no one - no one besides the elves truly knows its location. It is rumoured the Elves use the magic of the forest itself to hide their ancient capital, Lothril.



Culture:

Once all elves were born with the ability to cast powerful magic. But ever since the two portals opened in Karuta - bringing forth the humans and vampires - most of the magic inside the elves has died out. These days only the Elf nobility is born with magic flowing through their veins. The normal Elf population is unable to perform any kind of magic, something inside of their soul blocks all magic. This is why the Elf peasants are forced to fight with sword and bow.

Cannibalism is part of the Elf culture. Most other races of Karuta frown upon these practices, however they don't truly understand the reason why the Elves perform them. Cannibalism is a way for the Elves to maintain, and obtain magic. Magic flows through Elf blood and Flesh. When one Elf consumes the flesh of another who was born with the power to wield magic, the Elf will receive the power to wield magic himself. It is frowned upon and illegal by the laws of Lothril, for someone born without magic to consume the flesh of an Elf who was, however this doesn't stop ambitious, criminal Elves who wish to obtain power. Consuming the flesh of a noble Elf by another noble elf is very common however, and often children eat their parents upon death, instead of burring them like the other races of Karuta do.



Religion:

The elves don't follow any deities of any kind. They do not pray and they do not perform offerings. They only believe in one sacred thing, and that is nature itself. The wood elves try to be as harmonious with nature as possible. To kill an innocent bird, to break a twig, or to swat a fly is seen as sinful and foul. This is why most elves are vegetarians - despite their cannibalistic tendencies.

Being as close to nature as they are, they loathe war and any type of large scale conflict, for they believe it to be unnatural. They use diplomacy and persuasion to solve their conflicts, and if that fails, they duel to the death, and the victor will eat his opponent afterwards. But it is very rare to see the elves march to war. They will however defend their forests with fierceness and ferocity against any enemy who dares set foot in their lands - especially when the very nature around them is brought to risk.

Now however, the Wood Elves of Lothril are facing what could possibly be their greatest threat. The legions of Dark Elves – those who had once been Wood Elves and turned their back on their native culture - are growing at a staggering rate and threatening to tear down their forests and make them suffer as they themselves once had. The Dark Elves are not alone and have listed the help of the almighty Orcs of Waruk, and the bloodthirsty Vampires of Ziris.
