The Shiranui Second is a product of the Joint Tactical Surface Fighter Development Program (XFJ Program), a plan initiated in 2001 that aimed to overcome the development ceiling of the Type-94 Shiranui and improve its battlefield performance; supporters of the Shiranui Second had hoped that a major international breakthrough could be achieved by using American development data and technology.

This pack includes the XFJ-01a in first and second liveries, and the XFJ-02b.

For the second stage of the MSIP (Multi-Stage Improvement Plan), Boening upgraded the Phase 1 using lessons learnt from the Phoenix Initiative, resulting in the Phase 1's external transformation to the unique form of the Shiranui Second.


Behind the Scenes:
My plane-ified Shiranui Second is a combination of three fictional aircraft. Most of the aircraft takes inspiration from the CFA-44 Nosferatu and the X-02 Wyvern from the Ace Combat series. The nose portion takes inspiration from the famous VF-1 Valkyrie from Macross. Designing this aircraft was a lot more difficult than the Takemikazuchi, as I required it to look like a realistic fifth-generation fighter, while maintaining its fictional status.





Real-World Lore:
Unlike its Muv-Luv counterpart, the Shiranui Second is an advanced technology demonstrator (ATD) fifth-generation jet fighter. It is collaboratively manufactured by four companies: Boeing, Fuji Heavy Industries (Subaru), Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, and Kawasaki. In the real world, the Shiranui Second was never introduced into service, as it was only an advanced technology demonstrator meant for testing purposes only. Like all plane-ified TSFs, the height of the original mecha is used as the length of the aircraft. Powered by two General Electric F140-GE-100 afterburning turbofan engines, it has a top speed of Mach 2.2, significantly less than the Takemikazuchi. Armaments include a single M61 Vulcan minigun, and various munitions than can be stored in its internal weapons bay or on the bottom pylon. Optionally, a Type-99X Electromagnetic Launcher (EML) [​railgun] may be mounted to the bottom.

Trivia:
Some of the paint schemes of the Shiranui Second are inspired by the T-2 CCV. The advanced technology demonstrator role is also inspired by the real-life Mitsubishi X-2 Shinshin, which is also a fifth-generation ATD.
