Underland pays tribute to Lewis Carroll's novel, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and the 1951 Disney film adaptation, Alice in Wonderland. In some ways, the map matches Wonderland. Both Wonderland and Underland have scary twists and turns, and unexpected surprises. On the contrary, while Wonderland has an underlying feeling of fear, it still features bright colors and cheery creatures. Underland parodies that with it's dim lighting, dark colors, and high risk landscape.

Underland has over 200 double, single, hidden, fake, and trapped chests. Some are easily accessible, but other's require effort to reach. Spawn has nine chests (3 on either side of the structure) and several crafting benches. Occasional traps of varying types dot the map. Parkour is frequent because it suits a map with as much lava as Underland features. Structures are spaced well, but do not take forever to find. The map is dim, but landscape and structures are still very easy to see.
