So recently, I was just testing with some super fast clocks, when I got the idea for this.
It's pretty much a barrier block underneath the player which is constantly being deleted and then placed again.
Toggleable by pressing "9" for on and "1" for off. As you would expect, you ascend by jumping and descend by pressing shift and moving.
FUN FACT: Can work on multiplayer with any number of players!
Make sure to run the following commands:
/scoreboard objectives add mc dummy
/scoreboard objectives add sneak stat.crouchOneCm
/gamerule commandBlockOutput false
