The Washington Life Building

In an era of tantalizing wealth and expansion in New York City, the Washington Life Building embodies the embrace of European architectural design at the turn of the century. Lead architect Cyrus L. W. Eidlitz designed this 19-story skyscraper as an ode to the palaces of the German Renaissance. Upon its completion, a local paper stated, concerning recent New York skyscrapers, "one has to give up as irredeemably ugly." However, it continues: "the Washington Life is one of the few that are positively attractive, and in which allowances do not have to be made."

Often overshadowed by its iconic neighbor in the Singer Building, built a decade later, the Washington Life was a work of art that never truly lived up to its potential. In 1967, both the Singer and Washington life were razed to make way for One Liberty Plaza. As the city assumed facades of steel and glass in a mad dash for floor space, it lost some of the most remarkable buildings on the skyline.


The Washington Life Building sits in NewBurg, our version of New York City on the Terra1912 server built by DevMcLego et al.

This is completely an original build. It is a Vanilla Minecraft build apart from the World Edit mod, and the WBCBuilds texture pack, which only makes very subtle changes to vanilla blocks. Chocapic shaders were used for the pictures. Please do not copy my work without credit :) There is no world download, as these are my builds, and I'd rather just show them off with pictures. Thanks!
