Yeah on my planet free server it has been doing that a lot here of late. I don't know if it is because of the update or what, but it is pretty cool.

Very weird indeed. The pattern of the snow seems strange, but I have seen a lot of weird worlds too in my minecraft saves. I like it though, one the worlds I have has a ice sheet that goes for at least 250 blocks in one direction, so it makes it real easy to cross the oceans.
