When The Sun Sets is a multiplayer, cooperative, class-based, player versus entity gamemode where the goal is to increase your score as much as possible while staying alive in an environment with increasingly powerful monsters.
With that bit out of the way, WTSS is just a really fun idea I had, developed from something else I may or made not have made a few years ago…
The main gameplay of WTSS takes place after you pick a class from three separate categories, DPS, Frontline and Support. We’ll keep it simple. DPS’s deal damage, Frontlines take damage, and Supports either heal damage or provide something that makes dealing damage easier. Get it? Got it? Good.
After selecting one of the 15 classes and starting the game with up to 14 friends, you are put here, in the main arena. It’s fairly small, with 3 meteors that act as the major spawn points. The first enemies you’ll see are the horde, weak zombies, but quickly you may see bigger and more threatening foes, such as bosses.
Each enemy slain (bar certain exceptions) will give you score, which is added to a total that determines how well you (and maybe your teammates) did. Bosses give lots of it. If you make it through all 3 main bosses, you’ll enter “Bleeding Heart” mode, where all enemies become absolutely brutal, and you get score for every second you manage to survive. When every party member dies, you’ll enter the lobby once more, with a message that you’ve bought time for humanity.
That’s pretty much all there is to WTSS, but with different class combinations and ways to play, the possibilities are endless!
