Semi Vanilla Server - What does this mean


The first major change we'll be making to our server is the idea of 'Semi-Vanilla'.

What we mean by this is that we wont be adding many game-changing plugins because we want to keep the server as vanilla as possible. We will keep a few plugins to give donation rewards, to prevent cheating and plugins to prevent chat spam ect.


What we wish to achieve by doing this


One of the main problems of big servers with shops and so on, is that end-game players tend to be a little OP, and are superior to newer players. This is because they tend to have huge farms, generating loads of money which they can use to buy anything they want from shops. So they can be full diamond gear, die, and just purchase the gear all over again. We DON'T want this. We want older players on the server to experience the same, fresh start every time they log on, as they did when they first started playing. Sure players can still be more superior than others, but it will be harder to reach this goal without the ability to buy everything they can from shops. The game will generally be a lot more challenging for players if they can't buy to win.


Value of items and donation rewards


This change can only benefit donators. Donator's will no longer receive cash rewards for donating, but this means we can give them more items for donating, and build rewards based on the vanilla aspect. For example, if they receive 64 diamonds for donating now, It will be loads more valuable than it will with an economy. This is because players won't have the ability to just farm and purchase items from shops, so donating will give a much larger boost to the player than before now that they can't effortlessly obtain items for themselves. 


The next big thing. Donator raffle


Now that we've removed certain plugins, we want to make donator's feel more special than before. What we're doing is adding a raffle for donator's. Yes, a raffle. What this means is that donator's will now be entered in to a draw every month. You will automatically be placed in to this draw and will be eligible for it as long as you're holding a donator rank.


How does this work?


Every month we'll take all donator's in to consideration. Tommy and I will note down all donators' names and place a number beside each one, for example:
Glen 1
Tommy 2
Nathan 3

Kit 4

Then we will use a website to roll a random number between x and y, in this case we will roll between 1 and 4. Given the roll lands on 3, Nathan wins. This may sound a little complex, but we have it all under control.


What's the reward?


The reward for winning the donator draw will start off small. It may start as a stack of diamonds, something in-game related. As we start getting more donations and more players to enter the draw, we will increase the reward value. An example of a reward could be something such as a Minecraft figure of your character. Rewards will vary every month based on server income. We will post a thread on the forums for suggestions on the reward every month. More rewards could potentially be computer peripherals, such as a new keyboard or headset. Rewards could even get as big as a new laptop, based on the amount of donator's of course.


Experience


The owners. Dupefrog and I (Dreamstate) have large experience in running minecraft servers. I have previously come out of ownership of an active, 100 player faction survival server. Dupefrog, originating from The Voxel Box, also shared this experience with me. We have high expectations and standards of a community management, coming from a background of a variety of different games. These include games such as; Counter strike, TF2, League Of Legends and large guilds on various mmo's such as Tera and WoW.

We also have experience with youtube producers, working on large scale projects in Minecraft, various other games, and websites.
