What is Pulse City (the server?)
Pulse City is a sci-fi cyberpunk roleplay server, taking place on a secluded colony world in the aftermath of a cataclysmic galactic war known as the Visitation. It has cyberpunk staples, like ruthless megacorps, sentient androids, and cyborgs--but also a few space-opera elements, including alien races with their own unique cultures and backgrounds.
What is Pulse City (the place)?
Pulse City is an "Intercorporate Development Zone" and the largest city on the planet Pulse. While the rest of the planet's vast, sparsely populated interior is claimed by various corporate states, Pulse City has a nominally "civilian" government under the Colonial Corporate Council (C3).
Pulse was first colonized in roughly 50 BV by the AEKI Corporation, an interstellar empire with holdings on hundreds of worlds. A few years later, it sold parts of the planet to House Helgema (a clan of matriarchal Jotun nobles) and to the Integrated Energy Conglomerate.
When the Visitors--an alien empire from outside our galaxy--came to conquer the stars, it quickly became clear that defeat was inevitable. Led by AEKI's local leader, Pulse had its records removed from as many outside sources as possible, secluding itself away as the galaxy burned.
As the refugee ships stopped arriving and the galaxy became eerily quiet, Pulse was struggling to absorb its population increase and adjust to life without the "home offices" of their respective factions.
The IEC, riding a wave of reformism, argued for the creation of a planetary governing body, the Colonial Corporate Council (C3.) It ceded part of its territory in 7AV to form Pulse City, the planet's capital and an "Intercorporate Development Zone," not under the control of any single faction.
So wait, what about the rest of the galaxy?
While the galaxy had a number of powerful, advanced civilizations before the Visitors, they are believed to have been destroyed or to have disappeared. The only time Pulse has contact with the rest of the galaxy is when a refugee ship stumbles onto the system, or when the Star Legion launches its daring, death-before-capture raids to steal Visitor technology. Otherwise, the Planet is alone.
What's a corporate state?
A megacorporation which is so powerful it has its own military and territory.
Can I play something other than a human?
Yes! Not only are there genetically modified "Althumans," there are alien races like the Jotuns and Chitans, and sentient Androids. And obviously, any race can be a cyborg.
What year is it?
69 AV (69 years after the Visitors arrived, and 119 years after Pulse was first colonized.)
