I suppose that this reply is just a little bit late, but you should be able to install the mod as a version and play it on 1.7.2 through your versions folder and selector in the game menu.
Also, I'm not sure if the server is currently up yet, as it's been down for the mod to be updated.
Further instructions can also be found on the mod page :D

Sorry guys, but you're the 2nd largest Middle Earth-themed server out there.
MCME is the biggest! Maybe your map has a larger scale, but by just looking at the screenshots I can say that MCME is by far much more skilled when it comes to building and detailing the landscape.

I think Ardacraft is well on their way to become the best one, the scale is correct, there is massive attention to detail, tolkien's books and so on. Those things are things that mcme doesn't have, Ardacraft has for every hobbit village an almost completely different style while you can't differenciate the villages on mcme.

Also, very mediacore terrain, too voxeled and the 16x16 texture pack is a major downfall.

Well, I chose MCME before ArdaCraft, and I'm happy I did :p
No offense, it's just my personal point of view ;)
