Baibars the Mamluk was a slave-warrior recruited by Saladin's Ayyubid dynasty, who rose to prominence as a general, and then King! Among his accomplishments are the mopping up of the Mongol invasion, and the annihilation of the crusader cities. Although Saladin is famous for starting the Jihad against the Crusaders 100 years after they took root, it's Baibars who ultimately defeated them.
Whereas Saladin is known for mercy and compromise, Baibars is known for his uncompromising attitude and willingness to utterly crush his enemies. He targeted one crusader city after another, giving them ultimatums to evacuate and go back to Europe. Then he would invade, tearing some cities apart brick by brick, and enslaving the population. He also turned to the local communities who helped the crusaders, such as the Druze, Armenians, Georgians, and forcibly evicted them.
To reflect this....zeal, i have him a dark and formidable look, although the scarred face and cataract-clouded eye are from actual history. His armor is strips of plate mail over decorated studded leather, over an ornate robe. The fanciness reflects the Turkic and Persian influence over middle-eastern military gear.
