I tried for a minimalistic shading style, though yes, it's still pretty crappy. The hue shift is a bit different to the "up down up" sort of thing, I find "down down down" works nicely for less saturated colors (that probably makes no sense to you whatsoever)

I use the same method. Shadows low sat, mid tones the most saturated, highlights low sat, right?
