“Wow Daddy! Look at that yo-yo! Can I have it?” said Tommy Brenton. “Tommy, you KNOW that we can’t afford any new toys for you.” replied Tommy’s father.


                The Brenton’s were a family struggling through job troubles and money loss. Mr. Brenton worked at a meat packing company, and Mrs. Brenton worked as a seamstress. They only had one child, Thomas Brenton. Tommy had only a tattered toy bear to play with. His childhood consisted of going to school on some days, and working small jobs on others.


                “Ed, what are you doing home so late?” asked Mrs. Brenton. “They made me work late.” said Mr. Brenton, grasping onto the countertop. “Well how much you make today? Tommy’s quite hungry and… wait… is that the smell of liquor on your breath?” “Stay out of my god damn business!” Mr. Brenton yelled furiously.


                Tommy could hear the whole thing from his room in their tiny house. He hated his father for wasting the family’s money. He hated his father for caring so little about the wellbeing of others. He hated his father so much that he with that he would just leave. The next morning he got his wish.


                For years Tommy roamed the streets, begging from strangers. Even when he had acquired more than enough, he continued to throw on his big brown jacket and patched pants, to take advantage of families like his own.


                Thomas grew up to be a spiteful man. Despite his lack of education, he became a wealthy business man. However, his earnings came at a cost to others. His worker’s wages were miniscule. He controlled the whole industry, meaning that he could make his prices as high as he wanted, but he was the only one that the consumers could purchase from. He took a high interest in gold. He felt as if it showed off his wealth the others. He was literally walking through piles of it. (Gold all over his shoes) Tom couldn’t say that he felt bad. Greed had completely taken over his mind. All that he could think about was money, money, money. He wanted to prove to his father that he could make a good life without him. His life was far from good.


                Tom’s mother died of the flu 10 years ago, leaving Tom bitter. Since then, no one has loved him. No one has showed him that greed can be a deadly thing, destroying your brain and personality. Tom needed someone to comfort him, in his times of intense sadness. Now his only friends are the ones he pays to be around him. </3
