About the Skin

Helena and Thrine is a concept I came up with for the contest- I was really interested in making two halves of a whole. I never liked the concept of light and dark. I feel it makes things too separate. I decided to combine both aspects into these characters, Helena and Thrine. They both have flaws and traits that make them unique, and fight their own "war" between light and dark.

The overall design for Helena (left) is based on Greek and Roman armor. It's mostly present in the skirt, which is divided leather panels. I wanted to convey a sense of chaos and volume with her hair, hence the use of the second layer throughout. I went with purple for the undercoat because it had a nice flow, and I always love pairing green and purple in skins.

Thrine (right) is inspired by the look of an axolotl. I love their other-worldly look, but I wanted an almost demonic feel. I added some detailing with the horns and teeth. Her outfit is composed of a green tunic over a longer white skirt. I based the look on Greek and Roman goddesses, adding a gold sash and decorative shoulder piece as well.

Helena

Helena is someone I picture as headstrong. She's rude and fierce, and naive. I like those flaws- it gives room for growth, or a fight between light and dark aspects of a personality. Her saving feature is her loyalty, but sometimes, it's important to look past bonds of friendship and decide what you really want to do.

Thrine

Thrine is a benevolent being, who knows plenty (or thinks she does) about the world. She's shy and withdrawn, which makes it difficult for her to connect with people. Her greatest trait is her ability to stay calm and composed- something which helps her continue to fight her internal battles.
