The First Grandmaster of the Knights templar. Born 1070 died 1136. Co-founder of the Order along with Saint Bernard of Clarvaux, he created the Latin Rule (the code of behavior for the order.Most of his Origin and early life is unknown besides his birth. 1114-16 is the probable time Count Hugh of Champagne was accompanied by Hugues on a pilgrimage to Jerusalem. Later writing say that Hughes approached King Baldwin II of Jerusalem along with eight knights (two of whom were brothers) and Saint Bernard in order to form the Order. Hugues was secceeded as Grandmaster by Robert de Craon.
