In the Old Times there was the races of Man, Asahi and the Kouhan. The Asahi ruled with an iron fist in the Old Times, life was good but there was an eternal cycle of repetition. Centuries went on without any change, without any true life or meaning. Eventually the rebellious Kouhan tried to overthrow the Primordial gods, to bring about a world of advancement, one where chaos and anarchy will push the world forward. The Asahi however defeated the Kouhan and sent them into the lowest region of the cosmos, the realm of man.
In the realm of man the Kouhan intermingled with the natives they, forgot their overly ambitious ways for a time and lived in harmony with man. They began to advance as there forefathers wished to centuries ago, however the Asahi gods, not wanting to see the Kouhan threat re-emerge descended to the grounds of man and destroyed all that the Kouhan and man had strived so hard to accomplish.
The Asahi however did not anticipate the retaliation, in a world that they had turned into ash, sprouts of descent began to grow. The Kouhan distraught by there ambitions being squandered by there gods once again flung themselves into war with their masters, they were once again swatted back down into the realms of man. However man while having all it's material objects given to it by the Kouhan destroyed, has not lost the far more important aspects given to it. The abilities to grow, to feel, to have pride, to aspire and to do what it must. The fledgling people picked up their Kouhan friend who helped them accomplish more than they ever could on their own and took on the Asahi, pushed by pure numbers and determination the forces of the Kouhan and man destroyed the Asahi. They obliterated there physical forms leaving no trace save the conscious thought of the Asahi cursed to forever travel the cosmos looking for meaning where there is none
All save The Cursed One whose true name is lost with the Old Times. The Kouhan were unable to even scratch his skin, they could put him in a cell for the rest of his life, however they wanted to inflict the same punishment as he and his Asahi brethren had done to the Kouhan so long ago. The stripped him of his powers, singed his skin till it was of ashen colour, and cast him down to the realm of man, to forever live in darkness. From then on he was known as Kurai, the being of darkness. Now all he can do is latch on to humans, hope to one day regain his powers, restore his comrades and destroy man and the Kouhan. But for now all he is is a shadow, and beware of the shadows...
