In the film he's blond, but in the books Tolkien never said anything about his hair colour. There's only one scene in The Fellowship of the Ring, book 2, chapter 9 in which his head is described as dark, but it's at night, so nobody knows what colour his hair actually is. In The Hobbit it says that his father, Thranduil, has golden hair, but all the other elves from Mirkwood have dark hair.I can't choose, so I made both.
