Otters

Otters are semi-aquatic, carnivorous mammals belonging to the weasel family (Mustelidae), found on every continent except Australia and Antarctica. Known for their playful behavior, they have sleek, streamlined bodies and dense, waterproof fur that keeps them insulated in the water.

There are 13 species of otters worldwide, ranging from the small Asian small-clawed otter to the giant otter of the Amazon and the sea otter of the North Pacific. Many populations are under threat due to habitat destruction, water pollution, and historical or ongoing hunting for their fur. Conservation efforts have helped some populations, such as the North American river otter, recover in parts of their range.
