Princess Isabel

Dona Isabel, a Redentora, também conhecida
como Princesa Isabel, foi a princesa herdeira do
Brasil, de 1846 a 1889. assinou em 13 de maio de 1888,
como regente, a Lei Áurea, que aboliu a escravidão no Brasil.
Sabendo que essa lei derrubaria a monarquia, Vossa Alteza afirmou:
"Se mil outros tronos eu tivesse, mil tronos eu perderia para por fim à escravidão!"
E cumprindo essa previsão, o império caiu pouco mais de um ano após a sanção da lei.

Princess Isabel, was the Crown Princess
of Brazil from 1846 to 1889. On May 13, 1888,
as regent, she signed the Lei Áurea, which abolished slavery in Brazil.

And fulfilling this prediction, the empire fell a little over a year after the law was enacted.
