Today Rome celebrated its 2769th birthday, and since I've got a Modern Rome universe in the works on here, I thought I'd celebrate. I initially wanted to make a ship or at least build something but I didn't have time, so I threw together this skin. While the modern Roman Navy has a much bigger role in defense than antiquity, the legendary Roman Legions are still the most well-known face of Roman military power, so it's only fitting that I tip my PASGT to them. I tried to be somewhat accurate in representations of gear, as much as the pixelated pallette and my memory could serve. Enjoy my dismal attempt at Italian Desert Vegetato pattern!

A Roman from the Golden Age would hardly recognize their home empire in the modern day, although they would soon know not all was lost once they observed Roman Legionaries in action. Gone are the days of the phalanx, destroyed by the machine gun and grenades, and the very visible standards, although many old traditions and structures do remain in some form, but the Legions have hardly lost their fame or effectiveness, This legionary is a Decanus, or squad leader, in charge of 8 legionaries. He wears the desert pattern of the Imperial Roman Army, indicating a deployment in either Egypt or Israel. He is part of the 15th Legion, deployed in loosely-allied Persia as part of a relief force to help against Caliphate and Pan-Persian State forces backed by Carthage. The Roman force there has not participated in many combat actions, but battle becomes more likely every day as Persian forces slowly pull back under surprisingly well-funded and well-equipped Caliphate and PPS forces, although no one knows who is funding them. The 15th is currently being considered for transfer to Australia, where allied Britannia has requested aid in response to odd happenings in the Pacific. However, as the Romans celebrate their most cherished holiday, the birthday of their millennia-old civilization, from Army outposts to the pristinely restored Forum, appearing as it did over a millennia ago, these soldiers sit back and rejoice in being a part of a state that has weathered great trials and done magnificent things for 2769 years. They toast to the next millenium, even as signs show around the world that their very existence might be challenged.
